Yes. NFC tags will scan if placed behind wood.
However consider that NFC tag scan distances are typically 2-5 cm 1-2 inches. The thickness of your wood will add distance between the phone and the tag so if your wood is 1cm thick then a tag that would normally scan a 2cm would effectively scan at 1cm. To counteract this we recommend using the largest tag that you can to offer the best scan distance.
The other consideration is always getting the NFC tag to stick to the wood. Some woods particularly unpainted will make adhesion difficult. In these cases you can either use a
disc tag with a hole and screw the tag in make sure you aren't using an on-metal tag if you are screwing to the back of the wood - or just use a normal
nfc label but use some extra sticky tape over the top to help it stay in place. The additional sticky tape on the back won't affect the tag in any way.
