Can I use NFC to find my dog?

Unfortunately, no.

NFC is by definition 'Near Field' which means that an NFC tag can only be scanned from a short distance. At best, most mobile phones are only able to scan NFC tags up to a few inches/10cm. If you were that close, the chances are that you will have found your dog.

You could however use NFC tags to help identify a dog that was lost and therefore help return it to it's owner. NFC 'dog tags' are actually quite common and can be used to store a small amount of information, a phone number or just a link to an owners Facebook/Twitter page for example. A few of our customers have set up one of the free 'link sharing' pages - such as bio.link or link.tree and connect an NFC dog tag (hang tag/keyfob) to that.
