NTAG213 vs. NTAG216

These two chips, the NTAG213 and the NTAG216 are from the same NTAG family of chips. They are both manufactured by NXP.

The NTAG213 is part of the NTAG21x series of chips and along with the NTAG210, is the most common. It's a full featured tag with enough memory for almost all standard use cases. Widely available, it's found in a very broad range of tags and products.

The NTAG216 has the largest memory capacity of the NTAG21x range. It's typically used in business cards and similar vCard storage applications. With a better availability than the smaller memory NTAG215 chip, it's essentially the only option if you need more memory than the NTAG213. It's not a cheap chip and prices for NTAG216 tags carry a heavy premium.

Seritag strongly recommend that NFC tags shouldn't be used to store data but contain only the link to data. In which case, using a large memory chip such as the NTAG216 isn't always a good idea in the first place. However, if your application absolutely requires it, this chip is an option.

As an additional note, Seritag have had a number of reported issues with reading and encoding large data quantities on the NTAG216 from certain mobile phones. As a result, we do not recommend this chip unless you have comprehensively tested and know which phones will be used on release.

Both these chips have a strong ScanStrength and will work very well with mobile phones.
