Can an RFID card be used as a NFC tag (or vice versa)?

I've got some RFID cards I want to re-use for a new project.

No, while they are broadly categorised under the same umbrella, NFC (Near Field Communication) is a subset of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), the main differences being; NFC enables two way communication and happens at a fixed short range. NFC operates a specific frequency of 13.56 MHz, while RFID spans a whole range from 120KHz to 10GHz. We have more information in a blog post here if you're interested in a detailed comparison. For users looking to do both RFID and NFC, tags are manufactured which contain both an RFID and NFC transmitter. We'd recommend getting some NFC tags specifically for this project.
