The leading manufacturers of NFC chips are :
NXP Semiconductors
One of the largest producers of NFC chips, widely used in smartphones, contactless payments, smart cards and NFC tags. NXP make the industry standard NTAG series chips (NTAG213, NTAG424) and the ICODE series (ICODE SLIX, ICODE 3)
STMicroelectronics
ST also make electronic reading chips and chips for NFC tags themselves. This includes a range of Type 2 and Type 5 tags which compete with NXP's NTAG series. STMicro also recently launched an authentication chip - the ST25TA-E - to compete with NXP's NTAG424.
EM Micro
EM make a number of NFC chips for NFC tags including some very good dual frequency chips. Dual frequency chips contain both NFC and UHF (RFID) circuits on a single chip allowing for both near field and long range scan distances.
Others
There's a number of other companies that make chips including Fudan - a large Chinese based company that also makes clone chips of other popular chips, Sony - who make the FeliCa chip used in some transit systems, and Qualcomm - what more commonly make chips used within mobile phone and other readers.
