Yes and NFC can work while under water or while submerged in water if encapsulated with the correct material.

Most garment NFC products will operate submerged in water however their durability would need to be tested. Most garment products can withstand domestic wash and dry cycles, however for longer periods this would not be the most suitable product.

Alternatives would be those made of Nylon, ABS or PVC. These are water resistant materials which can be submerged in water and protect the NFC. However it is important to note that their durability in submergible conditions has not fully been tested. We recommend vigorous testing on any submerged NFC products.

Any water to directly come in to contact with an NFC tag will break the tag.
